John Lowe is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at UNNC. He has taught, researched and carried out various other educational tasks in over twenty countries worldwide. His broad research interest is in the role of education in social change, and vice-versa. Most recently his focus has been on Higher Education in the context of globalization and – most recently of all – de-globalization. He is currently the coordinator of a Master’s program on International Higher Education, as well as supervising doctoral students studying this and related topics. He has long had an interest in the role of social theory in educational research and is interested in the (im)possibilities of cross-cultural transfer of social theory. Drawing on a lifelong interest in theoretical physics, he is also trying to explore how developments in quantum theory might give us new ideas for the study of social phenomena.
About the webinar
The internationalisation webinar series has been running since 2007 as part of an initiative organised by Dr Joanna AlYoussef. It is an open event during which speakers and participants address a particular aspect related to the internationalisation of higher education.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
We people of the world need to find ways to get to know one another–for then we will recognize that our likenesses are much greater than our differences, however great our differences may seem. –Peace Pilgrim
